Omnia Mutantur (eng)
This project arises from our wish to enable the contact with music from our time that is the result of an honest and conscious attitude towards the context in which the creator is immersed in and that which preceded him.
“Omnia Mutantur, nihil interit” [everything changes, nothing perishes] is the title of a work by the composer Emmanuel Nunes (1941-2012), which is based on the work Metamorphoses by Ovid. Besides the association of this title to our intent, we found it a small way to pay homage to the composer which, in our understanding, always instilled in us the need to recognize our place in the present, without forfeiting the past.
The main goal of the project is to promote the listening of 20th and 21st century music, connecting it with the musical tradition that preceded it, and to enable the audience to have a closer contact with composers, performers and musicologists of our time. To achieve that, we hold weekly hour-long sessions of listening with contextualization to different works, organized in thematic cycles of 4-5 sessions.
By preceding the listening with some contextualization (historical, sociological or stylistic) we aim to provide the listener with tools for informed listening.
The sessions now take place on Wednesdays at 21h30 in Museu Arte Nova (Aveiro) having previously been held at the Salão Nobre of the Parque de Exposições de Aveiro.
