As a response to the inevitable constraints of an electroacoustic music concerts cycle spread throughout the 2001/2002 season, it was created the compacted festival of electroacoustic music Aveiro_Síntese.
The first international festival of electroacoustic music had a simple programme structure, including masterpieces form the Portuguese music and a great variety of aesthetic proposes (from repertoire pieces to premières). It included nine“classical” or more “academic” electroacoustic concerts, two evening concerts dedicated to alternative electronics, seven sessions with some of the Portuguese composers included in the programme, and one seminar on composition conducted by the composer João Rafael.
Each of the nine concerts mentioned above was conceived to put together a Portuguese piece with a renowned repertoire piece, and its programme was completed with a selection kindly elaborated by different personalities, mainly associated with international studios, such as Emmanuel Nunes, Folkmar Hein, Godfried-Willem Raes, Cristina De Amicis and two electroacoustic music history myths: John Chowning and Jean-Claude Risset.
Aveiro_Síntese 2002 took place at Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Aveiro, from the 16th to 22nd of July, with the support of Câmara Municipal de Aveiro and Ministério da Cultura / IPAE, under the direction of the author, Diana Ferreira, and with the invaluable support of numerous individuals that in spite of all difficulties made this project possible.
